Josh Miller is a high in demand music professional from Baltimore, Maryland. A multi-instrumentalist, he is primarily known for his jazz and commercial piano music, both as a solo artist and bandmate. Josh is a leading member of multiple bands, ensembles, and musical projects that cover a repertoire spanning jazz, funk, blues, rock, jam, folk, hip-hop, fusion, acoustic, and more. Josh currently performs in touring bands along the east coast and has shared the stage with internationally touring acts including: The Wailers, The Ron Holloway Band, Couch, The Bridge, Aqueous, and Kelly Bell Band. He studied jazz piano performance with Grammy-award-winning pianist and arranger Harry Appelman, jazz studies under nationally renowned multi-instrumentalist and composer Matt Belzer, and audio engineering under Grammy-nominated engineer Alan Wonneberger. Josh has recorded on more than a dozen albums, EP’s, and singles under his own direction and production, and at the direction of established bandleaders and musical forces in the Baltimore and greater DMV area. He is a creative and expressive composer and producer, having written pieces ranging from big band, orchestral, and contemporary classical scoring, and produced hip-hop, electronic, and modern pop music.
Josh graduated from The University of Maryland, Baltimore County in December 2022, with a B.A. in Jazz Studies & Piano Performance and a B.A. in Music Technology. During his time in the Jazz Department at UMBC he shared a bandstand with notable jazz players and composers such as Larry Willis and Ben Allison. Josh also assisted in the creation of an accredited ensemble course at UMBC, "Improvisation Ensemble." He has performed on stage with the jazz and percussion faculty and several of his original compositions were premiered by both UMBC students and faculty.
Josh is currently the co-owner of TheEconomy Studios, a Baltimore based recording, streaming, and content creation studio. He has led and assisted in the production of dozens of both audio and video productions for himself and clients. Josh has extensive experience in live sound, stage management, AV management and consultation, recording, mixing, and mastering. He also worked as an Audio Technician at "Just Audio," one of the most highly regarded audio repair shops in the country.
